Chekhov (Russian: Че́хов) is a rural locality (a selo) in Kholmsky District of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, located at the Strait of Tartary. Population: 3,389 (2010 Census); 4,944 (2002 Census); 7,901 (1989 Census).

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (/ˈtʃɛkɔːf, -ɒf/; Russian: Анто́н Па́влович Че́хов, pronounced [ɐnˈton ˈpavləvʲɪtɕ ˈtɕɛxəf]; 29 January 1860 – 15 July 1904) was a Russian physician, playwright and author who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short stories in history.
