The Banner - University Medical Center (BUMC), formerly University Medical Center — Tucson and University of Arizona Medical Center — Tucson , is a private, non-profit 487-bed acute-care hospital in Tucson, Arizona. BUMC has two units: University Campus and South Campus.(Article) The name change in 2011 reflects the need to combine all the University of Arizona affiliated medical services: University Medical Center, University Physicians Healthcare, and the College of Medicine. In 2015 Banner Health based out of Phoenix, Arizona became a part of UAMC renaming it to Banner - University Medical Center. BUMC is part of Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) campus, including the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health in Tucson, Arizona. When founded in 1971, BUMC was part of the University of Arizona. In the 1980s, it became a separate institution.
