Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is a public school district that serves Montgomery County, Maryland. It is the largest school district in Maryland. As of the 2009–2010 school year, the district had 11,500 full-time equivalent (FTE) teachers serving 141,777 students at 200 schools. In 2010, MCPS was awarded a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. There is no superintendent currently, J Starr retired February 2015 . The county spends $2 billion on public schools, about half of the county's budget.
