Ternopil Oblast
Ternopil Oblast (Ukrainian: Тернопільська область, translit. Ternopilska oblast; also referred to as Ternopilshchyna - Ukrainian: Тернопільщина) is an oblast (province) of Ukraine.
Ternopil (Ukrainian: Тернопіль, translit. Ternopil’, Polish & German: Tarnopol, Russian: Тернополь, translit. Ternopol’, Yiddish: טערנאָפּיל) is a city in western Ukraine, located on the banks of the Seret River. Until 1944 it was known mostly as Tarnopol, while its Ruthenian (Ukrainian) name was not widely mentioned although it existed. Ternopil is one of the major cities of Western Ukraine and the historical regions of Galicia and Podolia.
