It is the seat of the administrative district (gmina) called Gmina Jaworzyna Śląska. The town lies approximately 9 kilometres (6 mi) north of Świdnica, and 49 kilometres (30 mi) south-west of the regional capital Wrocław. It is an important railroad junction, located along the major line from Wrocław to Wałbrzych.
