The college was established in 1956.Hasan Mian Advocate was the founder of this college. It was shifted to the new building in 1962 and was nationalized in 1973. The college was bifurcated into two independent and separate colleges having separate establishment offices, teaching and administrative staff, in 1973: But both colleges are in same building and classes are commonly shared but offices are not. Science College is in Morning Shift and Arts & Commerce classes are conducted in evening: Government Islamia Science College Sukkur (imorning shift) and Government Islamia Arts & Commerce College & Post Graduate Studies Centre Sukkur (evening shift).
