San Rafael is a town and municipality located in northern Veracruz state in central Mexico. Although the town proper is mostly modern, it is surrounded by farms growing bananas and other crops and small communities, a number of which have French style houses. The area was home to a French immigrant community starting in the early 19th century. French surnames and people with light skin can still be found, although the French language as mostly disappeared.
