Maraimalai Nagar is a suburb of the southern Indian city of Chennai. Maraimalai Nagar and its surrounding areas are referred to as "New Chennai" by the media due to recent industrial development around this area. It is a Satellite town developed by CMDA in the Year 1980. Many heavy industries are located in Maraimalai Nagar. The Ford India and BMW car factories is located within a mile of Maraimalai Nagar and the Indian software giant Infosys also has an office within eight kilometers of Maraimalai Nagar. Also SRM university has its main campus in Potheri.
