Whitegate (Irish: an Geata Bán) is a small village on the eastern shore of Cork Harbour in County Cork, Ireland. It is within the townland of Ballincarroonig or Ballincarroony. It was once a busy fishing port and well known for its lace-making. In the 20th-century Ireland's only oil refinery was built on Corkbeg Island, one side of the bay and the Aghada Power Generating plant on the other. The writer William Wall b. 1955 grew up here, though his home, then vacant, was destroyed in a fire in 2008 in a suspected arson attack.
