Kumasi /kuːˈmɑːsi/ (historically spelled Kumase or Coomassie) Kumasi Metropolis, is a metropolis in Ghana and is the capital city of Ashanti situated on the semi-island exclave Ashantiland. Ashanti is centered around the Ashanti capital city Kumasi – also spelled Kumasi metropolis. The immediate territory surrounding the Ashanti capital Kumasi metropolis is called Ashanti. Kumasi is situated 30 kilometers north-east of a Crater Lake the Lake Bosumtwi, in a rain forest region, and is the industrial commercial area and financial center of Ashanti and the Ashanti Kingdom as well as Ashantiland. Kumasi metropolis is situated west and south of Lake Volta, a large artificial reservoir completed in 1965, and north of the Crater Lake Lake Bosumtwi situated within Ashanti and approximately 500 kilometres (300 mi) north of the Equator and 200 kilometres (100 mi) north of the Gulf of Guinea. Kumasi metropolis is alternatively known as "The Garden City" because of its many beautiful species of flowers and plants.
