Tamworth (/ˈtæmwərθ/) is a large market town and local government district in Staffordshire, England, located 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Birmingham city centre and 103 miles (166 km) northwest of London. Bordering northwest Warwickshire, Tamworth takes its name from the River Tame, which flows through it, as does the River Anker. At the 2011 census the town had a population of 76,900. Tamworth is the second largest settlement in Staffordshire after Stoke-on-Trent.
