Mearns Academy is a secondary school in north east Aberdeenshire, Scotland serving Laurencekirk and the surrounding areas (St. Cyrus, Marykirk, Fettercairn, Auchenblae, Luthermuir, Edzell Woods, Fordoun and Edzell). The school building was the former primary school before it moved and now has over 600. pupils. Currently, plans are being drawn for a new school as the conditions have been seen as unacceptable to councils. A plan includes the school to be built at the other side of Aberdeen Road, parallel to the current playing fields. The current rector is Mrs Lizbeth Paul who took over in 2014 from Mr Ian Parkin who is now a HT Quality Improvement Officer at Aberdeenshire Council Despite the good at the school, it is known to have a good reputation in the area as having well behaved and respected pupils. The school has sports teams that compete in rugby, football (boys and girls), netball, cross country running and volleyball.
