Pielavesi is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the Northern Savonia region. The municipality has a population of 4,771 (30 June 2015) and covers an area of 1,406.57 square kilometres (543.08 sq mi) of which 253.27 km² (97.79 sq mi) is water. The population density is 4.14 inhabitants per square kilometre (10.7/sq mi). Neighbouring municipalities are Iisalmi, Keitele, Kiuruvesi, Maaninka, Pihtipudas, Pyhäjärvi, and Tervo.
