Chitral (or Chitrāl) (Urdu:چترال) was a princely state in alliance with British India until 1947, then a princely state of Pakistan until 1969. The ruler, or Mehtar, of Chitral was given the title of His Highness by the British and enjoyed a hereditary salute of 11 guns.
