On September 22, 2003 at 00:45 local time (04:45 UTC), a magnitude 6.4 M_w earthquake occurred close the northern coast of the Dominican Republic. Its epicenter was located at (19.847°N 70.666°W), near the town of Luperon, Puerto Plata and 40 miles (64 km) north the city of Santiago de los Caballeros. This earthquake could also be felt in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
