Parapuã is a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. The population in 2004 is 10,943 and the area is 366.22 km². The elevation is 486 m. This place name comes from the Tupi language, that means "Ugly River". At the 70's the county was called "Capital of the Coffee" because there was there 12,500,000 coffee trees. But in 1975 a frost destroyed mostly part of them. In spite of this, the coffee kept being important for the local economy, but also the sugar cane and corn as well. It was founded by Luiz de Souza Leão in 1934, and its current mayor is Antonio Alves da Silva.
