Ongul Island is an island 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long, which is the largest feature in the Flatvaer Islands lying just within the east side of the entrance of Lutzow-Holm Bay. Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photos taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition, 1936-37. They believed this island to be connected to East Ongul Island and applied the name "Ongul" ("fishhook"), which is suggestive of the outline of the two islands taken together.
