Governors State University (GSU) is a public university located in University Park, Illinois, United States. The 750 acres (3.0 km²) campus is located 30 miles (48 km) south of Chicago, Illinois. GSU was founded in 1969. As of the fall semester 2014, it transitions from an upper-division public university that admitted juniors, seniors and graduate-level students to a comprehensive public university that offers undergraduate courses at all, including those at the masters and doctoral levels.
