Chestnut Grove Academy was formed, as Chestnut Grove School, in September 1986 by the amalgamation of Henry Thornton Grammar School (named for Henry Thornton (1760-1815) a local MP and economist) and Hydeburn School. It is a partially selective secondary school with academy status in Balham, London, England. It selects 40% of its pupils for places based on aptitude in art and design and general ability. It was the first Arts College in the United Kingdom.
