Map of 2007 Shinwar shooting
The 2007 Shinwar shooting refers to the alleged killing of a number of Afghan "civilians" by US Marines who were fleeing the scene of a bomb attack, in the Shinwar District of the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan on 4 March 2007. According to initial reports, as many as 19 civilians were killed and 50 injured in the shootings. Much of what was found in the initial reports was rebutted. In May 2008 the Marine Corps determined the Marines had acted appropriately and would not be criminally charged. The exact casualty figures have not been firmly established.
