It lies approximately 8 miles (13 km) to the east of Hull city centre on the A1033 road. The civil parish is formed by the village of Thorngumbald and the hamlets of Camerton and Ryehill. According to the 2011 UK census, Thorngumbald parish had a population of 3,392, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 3,106.
