Runcorn was a rural district in Cheshire, England from 1894 to 1974. [1] It was named after but did not include Runcorn, a town on the River Mersey to the north-west of the district, which formed its own urban district.
In 1857 two small holding reservoirs were built in Prescot to receive water from the Rivington reservoirs. These held sufficient water to supply Liverpool for two days. In 1892 water from Lake Vyrnwy supplemented the water stored in Prescot.
