Lancaster /ˈlæŋkəstər/, or /ˈlæŋˌkæstər/ is the county town of Lancashire, England. It is situated on the River Lune and has a population of 45,952. Lancaster is a constituent settlement of the wider City of Lancaster, a local government district which has a population of 138,375 and encompasses several outlying settlements, including neighbouring Morecambe.

Bowland College is the oldest and used to be one of the smallest constituent colleges of Lancaster University. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in November 2004. The College was named after the Forest of Bowland, to the east of Lancaster.
