The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (NITT), also referred to as National Institute of Technology, Trichy, formerly Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli, is a public engineering and technology university located 20 km near the city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India. The institute was founded in 1964 to cater to the country's growing need for technological manpower. It is one of the 30 National Institutes of Technology in India and is declared as an Institute of National Importance by Government of India under NIT Act. About 3,500 students are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the institute.
