The 2009 Fiji earthquake occurred on November 9 at 22:44 local time (10:44 UTC). The epicenter was situated between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, about 100 km from Suva. With a depth of 585.1 km and a moment magnitude of 7.3, this earthquake occurred within the Pacific Plate which is subducting into the deeper mantle at the Tonga Trench.
