Zion Christian Church was founded just after the American Civil War. The African American families in the community erected a bush shelter on the present site. Rev. Robert Holland, the white pastor of Holy Neck Christian, preached once a month. Eventually, A log cabin was erected and Rev. Justin Copeland was called to be the first pastor. In 1867, the church, now named Zion Christian Church, was chartered.
